British actor Sam Claflin reportedly offered the role of Finnick Odair

In an interesting turn of events, our friends at Zap2It are reporting that British actor SAM CLAFLIN has been offered the much, much anticipated and sought after role of FINNICK ODAIR in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.

Sources tell Zap2it exclusively that the most coveted role in “The Hunger Games” sequel”Catching Fire” has been cast — and British actor Sam Claflin has got the gig.
Official reps for the film won’t comment on the casting, but our reliable sources reveal that producer Nina Jacobson and Lionsgate have signed off on Clafin’s offer. Now he just has to accept the role!

Claflin beat out actors like Jennifer Lawrence’s “X-Men: The First Class” costar Lucas Till and “90210” hunk Trevor Donovan for the role — as well as more recognizable names, like Armie Hammer and Garrett Hedlund.

Sam was seen in Pirates of the Caribbean: On stranger Tides as Philip. Official word from Lionsgate is awaited on whether he accepts this offer or not.
This is a major role for Sam and would be a boost to his career.  We will keep you up to date as this story progresses.

Additionally, sources say that Oscar winner Melissa Leo and three-time Emmy winner Tony Shalhoub are the frontrunners to play Mags and Beetee, respectively. Regardless of the status of their potential involvement, Claflin, Leo and Shalhoub are all on the studio’s shortlist for roles in the highly-anticipated sequel.Lionsgate and all of the actors’ respective reps had no comment on the casting.
