Jennifer Lawrence to star in A24’s new indie drama

Jennifer Lawrence - 90th Oscars - 2018

Jennifer Lawrence’s acting hiatus is coming to an end. She has signed on for an A24 drama, directed by in-demand theater director Lila Neugebauer.

Collider has details on the project:

Written by first-time screenwriter Elizabeth Sanders, the new film will find Lawrence playing a U.S. solider who suffers a traumatic brain injury in Afghanistan and struggles to recover back home. Oscar winner Scott Rudin and Eli Bush are producing alongside Lawrence and her Excellent Cadaver partner Justine Polsky.

This will be Neugebauer’s first feature film. In a comment to THR, she also addressed Jennifer’s casting.

“It is a first, but I feel really gratified that I think it’s the right first project for me in the film world. And thus far Jen has been a really astonishing partner as well. It was very clear to me very quickly that we have a deep shared understanding of the project and she’s a really collaborative spirit, so I’m looking forward to having this opportunity to merge minds with her.”

Filming starts later this year in New Orleans.

I’m very excited to see Jen return to her indie roots. Winter’s Bone, for which she won an Oscar, is still one of my favorite projects starring her.
