Box Office Preview: 'Mockingjay: Part 1' tracking $150M weekend opening

With the release of Mockingjay: Part 1, the franchise is looking to create Hollywood history on the North American box-office with three consecutive movies to open with $150 million or higher on the weekend.

Based on pre-release tracking, Lionsgate has put the figures in the range of $130-$150 million, cautious because the movie isn’t releasing in IMAX like its predecessors, but according to The Hollywood Reporter, most box office watchers put the number higher.

The first movie, The Hunger Games, had clocked in $152.5 million on the opening weekend in March 2012. Catching Fire, the second installment, rocketed past it with $158.1 million in November last year.
